Before We Start

There are multiple technical solutions to fix your internet issues, but first, let’s explore some basic troubleshooting steps.

  • Turn airplane mode on and off.
  • Restart your phone and Wi-Fi router.
  • Switch to a different Wi-Fi network band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
  • The issue may lie with your internet rather than Wi-Fi. In such case, contact your ISP for further assistance.

1. Update the Date and Time Settings

This method may look odd but ill-configured time and date settings can cause manyinternet problems on Android phones. Typically, Android devices automatically sync date and time from the network operator, but manual configuration may prevent updates when the phone restarts or remains turned off.

To set up an Automatic date & time, go to Settings > General management > Date and time and then enable the Automatic data and time option.

2. Tweak the Wi-Fi Network Settings

There are certain settings that may resolve the Wi-Fi connection but no internet access issue on your Android phone. Follow the guide below:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, and tap the gear/cog icon next to your connected Wi-Fi network.
  2. Tap View more, set IP settings to Static, and change DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4.
  3. Ensure Proxy is set to None, Metered network is set to Treat as unmetered and MAC address type setting to Phone MAC. After that, tap Save.

3. Forget and Reconnect to the Wi-Fi Network

If there’s a problem with your Wi-Fi network, simply forgetting and reconnecting might fix the internet issue. Just make sure you know the Wi-Fi password because forgetting the network will delete it.

To do that, go to Android Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi. Then, tap the gear icon next to the connected Wi-Fi and select Forget.

After that, reconnect to the Wi-Fi network to see if this fixes the Wi-Fi issue on your Android phone.

4. Reset Network Settings

Due to misconfiguration or a software glitch, you might experience no internet connection despite being connected to Wi-Fi. Resetting the network settings on your Android phone will restore them to the default state and potentially resolve the internet issue.

Head to Settings > General Management > Reset and tap Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. To confirm your decision, hit the Reset settings button.

5. Prevent Automatic Switching to Cellular Data

Many Android phones feature automatic switching to the cellular network when the Wi-Fi internet connection is slow or unstable, potentially resulting in slow or no internet connections. In such cases, you can disable this feature or turn off the cellular data.

Here’s how to disable automatic switching to cellular data:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android phone and go to Connections > Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the three-dots icon (kebab menu) in the top-right corner and select Intelligent Wi-Fi.
  3. Disable the Switch to mobile data toggle.

6. Verify Wi-Fi Access for Your Android Phone

The Wi-Fi router you are trying to connect to might be blocking your Android device from accessing the internet. This can happen if someone accidentally or intentionally blocks your device using the router’s MAC address filter. To check and unblock your device, access the router’s admin page > check blocked devices > unblock your device.

Note: The method varies by manufacturer and model. Consult your router manual for the specific steps. Some routers have the IP address, username, and password on the back of the device.

7. Check for Additional Steps on Public Wi-Fi

You can skip this step if connected to a home Wi-Fi network. However, some Wi-Fi networks, especially in offices, airports, or coffee shops, use Captive Portals. With it, you must complete an extra step after entering the Wi-Fi password, such as signing in with your email, watching ads, or agreeing to terms.

To identify a Captive Portal, look for a sign-in notification. If you don’t see it, disconnect and reconnect. Tap the notification and follow the instructions. For example, our office Wi-Fi requires an official username and password, valid for 24 hours. See the screenshot below.

8. Reset Wi-Fi Router

The next step to fix your Android’s Wi-Fi connection issue is to reset your router. Depending on your router’s manufacturer, you might find the reset option on the Maintenance page or under Advanced options. Alternatively, you can do a hard reset by pressing the hardware reset button located on the back of the router.

Keep in mind that resetting the router will erase all settings and ISP IP address configurations. Make sure to note down your credentials and back up any necessary information beforehand so you can reconfigure the router after the reset.

Wi-Fi Linked, Yet Internet Lost

I hope the above guide helps you fix the internet issue on your Android phone. If you notice the issue occurs with every other device, it means the problem lies with your router, and you may need to contact the manufacturer or purchase a new one.

On the other hand, if the issue is specific to your Android phone, and none of the above methods work, you may need to factory reset your device.
